Two-stage and fully modulating inverter systems run longer at lower capacity, which is exactly what pulls humidity out of the air during a muggy Toronto July — and they are far quieter, which matters when the condenser sits three metres from a neighbour's window on a narrow city lot.
The install itself is where quality is won or lost. We set the condenser on a level pad with proper clearances, run and pressure-test the line set, pull a deep vacuum to remove moisture from the system, weigh in refrigerant to the manufacturer's exact charge, verify static pressure and temperature split across the coil, and commission the thermostat with you before we leave. Permits and inspections are handled on our end.

An oversized air conditioner cools the room fast, shuts off, and never runs long enough to pull humidity out of the air. You end up cold and clammy, with a compressor wearing out from constant starting and stopping. We run a proper load calculation on your actual home — square footage, insulation, window area and orientation, ceiling heights, duct capacity — and size to that number.
A single-stage unit is either fully on or fully off, and it is the value choice for smaller homes. A two-stage unit runs at roughly 60–70% most of the time and only calls full capacity on the hottest days, which is quieter and holds humidity better. A variable-speed inverter modulates continuously, giving the most even temperatures, the lowest running cost, and near-silent operation.
Cooling efficiency is rated in SEER2 — think of it as miles per gallon for an air conditioner. A higher number means less electricity for the same cooling. The right target depends on how long your cooling season runs and how long you plan to stay in the home; we will show you the payback rather than pushing you to the top of the range.
